Understanding data logging techniques helps a bunch when it comes to monitoring and evaluating wind and solar measurement campaigns. Due to unwavering technological advances, different entities have devised a wealth of stand-alone and inbuilt devices with high-end abilities to record real-time data.
The most recent inventions for new data logger platforms in the recent years and hear future comes from Campbell Scientific and solves limitations of Ammonit Measurement and Meteo-40 data loggers. Especially the remote data monitoring and data logger configuration and administration is professionally solved by Campbell Scientific LoggerNet software.
Ammonit Measurement with the Meteo-40 data logger series
In our product portfolio one will find solid and proven devices from Ammonit Measurement GmbH for wind measurements and solar measurements as well as remote data monitoring. Data loggers from Ammonit are Meteo-40S, Meteo-40M and Meteo-40L. Moreover, Ammonit Measurement is offering much periphery to connect all kind of sensors and additional devices.
The inherent features enable to accurately measure and automatically record close to real-time data on both wind and solar energy. The Ammonit Measurement system captures data of both the two elements.
Campbell Scientific and its CR series as well as Granite platforms
Campbell Scientific provides meteorological measurement and control systems worldwide, using advanced machines and sophisticated sensors and software. The data loggers can flexibly be programmed and used for a diversity of measurements. Even in the harsh environment, the company is motivated to offer reliable services geared towards achieving sustainability in niches ranging from water, air to the soil.
The data loggers from Campbell Scientific (e.g. CR800 / CR850 / CR1000 / CR1000x / CR6 / CR3000 / Granite platforms etc.) are extremely rugged and robust. Especially Campbell Scientific data loggers are used in harsh environments as well as safety critical situations. The track record proves reliable operation of Campbell Scientific data loggers.
Remote data monitoring with data authenticity and data integrity
Accurate data measurements call for strict configuration and wiring connection schemes. The management software is essential for remote data monitoring. The software enables analysts to monitor and collected data automatically from a remote end-point. In this context, the equipment will act as a repository tool that automatically records and sends the data to a central position.
Data authenticity and data integrity are most importantly during data recording and data transmission in order to warrant bankable data quality.
Data authenticity means that the data are coming from a particular, proven measurement station (i.e. its data logger), guaranteeing the data ownership.
Data integrity means that the data are not changed or manipulated, guaranteeing the data validity.
Both, data authenticity and data integrity can be realised by use of Campbell Scientific or Ammonit Meteo-40 data loggers and their corresponding remote data monitoring and retrieval by GSM modem or satellite modem data transfer.
Ammonit Measurement and Campbell Scientific data logger additionally can be connected to V.Mac, a ProfEC Ventus tool that enables instant, remote data monitoring, supervision, evaluation and control. V.Mac services offers to our Clients customized login, measurement data supervision, measurement data download and account content sharing opportunities. V.Mac enables our Clients to always have real-time access and look onto any of their measurement stations everywhere in the world.

V.Mac warrants data integrity as well as data authenticity to yield highest standards of data protection and bankability.
GSM modem vs. satellite modem
Working with a measurement system with an inbuilt modem that accepts sim cards is a real must-have. A GSM modem is embedded inside the control cabinet. The GSM modem operates with a SIM card that is usually subscribed with a mobile operator. Typical, GSM modems enable the data logger to function more or less the same as a cell phone. By enabling the functioning of the GSM data transfers, the data logger will be able to connect to a server and communicate over an available mobile network.
Communication interface network standards like GPRS, Edge, UMTS, HSDPA WCDMA, CDMA2000 etc. can be use by GSM modem with several bands.
On the other hand, a satellite modem is a more sophisticated piece of device used to establish data transfers in remote areas with not GSM network availability. It transforms the satellite modem's input bit stream to radio signals.
We, at ProfEC Ventus, offer measurement technology with a satellite modem, for example, the model Satellite Modem Terminal Hughes 9502 (Inmarsat BGAN).
The Campbell Scientific satellite modem 9522B and the COM9522B Interface from our One Stop Wind Shop provide a perfect connection via the Iridium network via an interface with Campbell Scientific data loggers.
The omnidirectional antenna eliminates the need for alignment and provides global coverage for data communication.
